Iron Anaemia Info
Iron Anaemia (also spelled 'anemia' in North America, comes from Ancient Greek: 'anaimia', meaning lack of blood) is a decrease in the number of red blood cells circulating the body. It can also include lower amounts of haemoglobin per red blood cell, decreased oxygen-binding ability of the haemoglobin molecule (due to deformity or decreased development.)
Because haemoglobin (found inside red blood cells) normally carries oxygen from the lungs to the capillaries, anaemia leads to lack of oxygen (hypoxia) in peripheral organs.
Since all human cells depend on oxygen for survival, anaemia can result in a wide range of ensuing clinical manifestations.
It is the most common disorder of the blood. There are several types of anaemia based upon what aspect of the red blood cell is non-functional. The most common form (up to 50% of all anaemia cases worldwide) is called iron-deficiency anaemia which is caused by insufficient dietary intake and absorption of iron, and/or iron loss from bleeding which can originate from a range of sources such as the intestinal, uterine or urinary tract.
Supplementing your diet with iron can help with this condition. We have some natural health products that can help with this. It is important to consult a health professional before supplementing with iron due to certain cardiovascular risks associated with increased levels of iron.
